Seventy communications and HR professionals shared the biggest challenges they have faced during lockdown as part of a recent webinar Internal Communication – Covid and Beyond.
Delivered by industry experts Brooke Kenyon, co-owner and managing director, client services – Orchard PR, Linda Rolf, director – Linda Rolf Associates and John Ioannou-Droushiotis, HR consultant – Focus HR the webinar focused on practical tips and advice for marketing and HR professionals and business leaders.
According to the interactive poll, 39% felt that developing their managers’ communications skills would be the biggest challenge they would face beyond Covid-19. A third of respondents said that the biggest challenge they faced during lockdown was communication between teams and understanding how team members feel.
Brooke Kenyon said:
Attendance at this event showed this topic is something organisations and leaders are challenged by – the results indicate and reinforce our message that internal communication is more important than ever.
Linda Rolf added:
The poll insight came as no surprise. Managers are often promoted through their technical skill and abilities, but they may have not honed their skills on how to communicate well within their team. Lockdown appears to have highlighted this challenge and it’s essential managers are equipped to communicate effectively.
John Ioannou-Droushiotis said:
People are central to any organisation and great internal communication is vital to drive engaged employees. Effective communications can improve employee motivation, performance and wellbeing, all of which contribute to businesses success. These results show communications skills need to be addressed so managers and their teams can work more cohesively.
Orchard PR, Linda Rolf Associates and Focus HR have developed an interactive and practical course for people managers to meet this need.
Communications skills for people managers will be run over 3 sessions, and includes a full PRISM psychometric assessment report of behavioural and communication preferences. Anyone interested in attending can register their interest at https://loom.ly/i7dxHt8
