Safety campaigner and UN Women UK Delegate, Poppy Murray, will be presenting a free talk at Digital Jersey on Monday 19 May, encouraging us all to consider the creation of safe spaces in Jersey.
As part of Orchard’s ‘Conversations for Good’ series, Guernsey resident Poppy will be sharing her experiences in sexual harassment prevention, the challenges and successes of campaigns such as BE LADS and SafetyNet Guernsey, as well as the impacts of inappropriate behaviour, all informing the creation of safer communities.
Poppy was named Runner Up at the 2024 National Police Chiefs’ Council Violence Against Women and Girls Recognition Event and was the recipient of the 2025 Crimestoppers Guernsey Outstanding Achievement Award. She has delivered sexual harassment prevention training across the Channel Islands, the UK and internationally, including for the Chelsea FC Foundation, the Metropolitan Police Service, and the Royal British Legion.
She will be joined by Freeda CEO Kate Wright, who will explore the underlying causes of rising male distress and harmful behaviours rooted in gender inequality, as well as societal expectations of masculinity. Kate will address the barriers we need to break down to help men feel more included in the conversation and the roles we can all play in creating systemic change.
Poppy said: “I was delighted to be invited by Orchard to discuss my work and learnings with a Jersey audience and to see if we can develop more ways for the islands to support each other in creating spaces that are not only safe, but also inclusive.”
Laura Morel, Account Director at Orchard, said: “This is the largest of our ‘Conversations for Good’ events to date, reflecting the importance of the subject matter. We host these conversations to provide a platform for inspiring narratives, recognising the power of communications as a force for good, and are excited to welcome Poppy and Kate as our next presenters.”
Free tickets to the event are available on Eventbrite and through this link.
